VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Emily Shane

Intern of the Year

Emily is a recent graduate from the University of California, Davis with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Spanish. Emily also received the Distinguished Scholar Award from the College of Biological Sciences for her independent lab research and GPA. Prior to graduating, she was a volunteer at the California Raptor Center for 2 years. For the last few months, she has also been working with the marketing and social media team with the CRC as an intern.

It is through her hard work and dedication that we were able to pull off our first ever virtual open house this past May. She shot brand new video and photo content as the CRC digital media archives were long in need of a refresher. We were able to use her video footage to give a behind-the-scenes glimpse into a day-in-the-life of Operations Manager Bret Stedman, as well as publish a video recording of our typical education presentation from outreach events (featuring Jo Cowan and Lis Fleming).

Additionally, Emily has given the CRC's social media a much-needed energy boost, reactivating channels that had been languishing from lack of personnel. She has been a boon to the CRC both as a volunteer as well as stepping up to be our digital and social media intern since April 2020.
